Senator Petitions for Justice: JAMB Exam Scandal Involving 16-Year-Old Student
In a recent Senate session, a troubling petition was presented, highlighting a case of alleged misconduct and abuse of power during a national examination. The petition was submitted by Senator Neda Imasuen of Edo South Senatorial District, who serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petition. Senate President, Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio, approved for the petitions to be laid before the Senate, underscoring the importance of the matter. The details of the case are deeply concerning. The petition involves a 16-year-old student who took the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) exam. An invigilator allegedly made inappropriate advances towards the student during the exam. When rebuffed, the invigilator reportedly withheld the student’s exam results. The student’s father was told the results were withheld due to “examination malpractice,” a claim strongly denied by the family. To make matters worse, the invigilator allegedly obtained the student’s phone number and continued to contact her, despite the father’s warnings to stop. The exam board has since refused to release the results, potentially derailing the young student’s academic future. The Foundation For Youth Development stands in full support of Senator Imasuen’s petition, recognizing its significance in protecting young students and ensuring fair educational practices. As an organization committed to protecting and nurturing young talent, We believe this case highlights several critical issues. The alleged actions of the invigilator represent a clear abuse of authority and a breach of trust. Withholding exam results without just cause undermines the integrity of the educational system. Furthermore, this case underscores the need for stronger safeguards to protect young students from harassment and exploitation. Our foundation is actively supports Senator Imasuen’s efforts and advocates for policy changes to prevent similar incidents in the future and offering counseling and support services to the student and her family. We commend Senator Neda Imasuen for bringing this important issue to the Senate’s attention and Senate President Godswill Akpabio for recognizing its significance. The Foundation For Youth Development calls on all concerned citizens to support this petition. We urge the relevant authorities to take immediate action. A thorough and impartial investigation into the incident is crucial. If no malpractice is found, the student’s exam results should be released without delay. It is also imperative to implement stricter guidelines for exam invigilators and staff, as well as establish a clear and accessible complaint mechanism for students. By supporting this petition, we can help ensure that no student’s future is jeopardized by the unethical actions of those in positions of authority. We envision a safer and fairer educational environment for all young learners in our country.
