Project Status Report
The Federal Government Amnesty Programme, in collaboration with the Foundation for Youth Development (FYD), recently celebrated a landmark achievement with the graduation of 89 marine students from Haiphong Polytechnics College in Vietnam. This momentous occasion, held on July 6th, 2013, marked the completion of a journey of dedication and hard work, paving the way for promising careers in the maritime industry.
The ceremony was graced by distinguished guests from both Nigeria and Vietnam, including His Excellency Ambassador Mazi Orjih Okafor, Nigerian Ambassador to Vietnam, and the Governor of Haiphong City. This gathering highlighted the strong bilateral relationship between the two nations and the commitment to practical knowledge transfer through educational initiatives.
A Journey of Commitment and Achievement:
- 94 students embarked on this journey in July 2012, pursuing vocational maritime courses in Navigation and Marine Engineering.
- Dedication and perseverance led 89 students to successfully complete the program, demonstrating their commitment to excellence.
- Four students returned to Nigeria due to disciplinary issues or health reasons, highlighting the program’s emphasis on discipline and well-being.
From Trainees to maritime professionals:
In July 2012, 94 students embarked on this transformative journey, enrolling in vocational maritime courses at Haiphong Polytechnics College. Despite initial challenges, 89 students persevered, successfully completing the rigorous program and achieving the following impressive results:
- 26 students graduated with distinctions
- 47 students graduated with credits
- 16 students graduated with passes
Beyond academic achievements:
The ceremony also recognized outstanding individuals who went beyond academic excellence. Awards were presented to:
- Top two graduating students in each department (Navigation and Engineering)
- Two students demonstrating exemplary behavior
- FYD Ambassadors who served as role models throughout the program
A launchpad for bright futures:
This graduation ceremony marks a significant milestone, not only for the individual graduates but also for the Federal Government Amnesty Programme and the FYD. These newly equipped maritime professionals are now poised to contribute to the growth of the industry and their own communities.
