The Federal Government Amnesty Programme, in collaboration with the office of the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta, recently celebrated the successful completion of a shore-based training program for 72 delegates. This program equipped young individuals with the skills and knowledge necessary to pursue fulfilling careers in the maritime industry.
Equipping future maritime professionals:
The program consisted of diverse modules delivered across various locations in Sweden and Denmark:
- Basic Safety Training (Helsingburg) laid the foundation for safe working practices at sea.
- Ropax ship lectures provided practical insights during the voyage between Sweden and Denmark.
- Ship technology exploration at the Maritime Museum in Denmark deepened understanding of vessel operations.
- Vikin Museum immersion exposed participants to different ship types and their unique functionalities.
- Watchkeeping and life-saving techniques were mastered at Nubbgatan, Malmo.
- Liferaft and pool training in Vastra Varvsgatan, Sweden, instilled essential emergency response skills.
- Deck Service intricacies were explored at the Copenhagen Malmo Shipyard.
Graduation and recognition:
On October 29th, 2014, the 72 participants proudly graduated to the Sea time level, marking a significant milestone in their maritime journey. Their dedication and hard work were acknowledged with the following internationally recognized certificates:
Deck Officers:
- Basic Safety Training (BST) Certificate (STCW 2010 Manila AV1/1)
- Deck Officer Class VI (STCW) to be endorsed by the Swedish Maritime Administration
- Certificate in Security Awareness (ISPS)
- Short Range Certificate (SRC) VHF-Radio
Engine Officers:
- Basic Safety Training (BST) Certificate (STCW 2010 Manila AV1/1)
- Engine Officer Class VI (STCW) to be endorsed by the Swedish Maritime Administration
- Certificate in Security Awareness
- Certificate in Welding
